R3d

Last post was a little intense...  Let's slow it down a little.  The song is pronounced, "Red" like the color!  So now you're in the know... No, it's not some robot from a science fiction movie... Just Red.  This song is definitely traditional Lo-Fi Hip Hop.  A bit of Jazz, a bit of funk, and a low quality (ie. Lo Fi) hip hop beat to drive it.

Many stories have come out of this Pandemic.  Especially last year when people were locked in with no where to go.  I read a story about a guy and a girl who were room mates and stuck in their apartment with nothing to do.  So what happened?  They ended up hooking up and ended up together, and then married.  I read similar stories about people "keeping busy" (getting busy?) during the Pandemic.  So that inspired this sultry little track of mine.  Maybe some people don't see it that way.. I do.  I told Byron to mix it "sexy."  Lol!  That's all I really have to say about this track.  We'll discuss some technical details after.  Here's the track... Enjoy! (click the pic)

Some highlights from Production...

This was the first track where I myself recorded a physical instrument.  My daughter received a nice little Kalimba for her birthday from her Grandma (note the title pic).  I really liked the sound of the instrument so I asked her if I could borrow it for this track.  I had to tune it to the key I needed using a little metal hammer that came with it.  Just used a basic SM57 Mic and went to town.  Then laid a little reverb over it.  Because of how much I enjoyed it, I decided not to lay this track to tape. So this is the first track that is using a digital master.  I found tape was cutting the fidelity of the Kalimba a little and didn't want to lose it.  Here's a clip I posted some time back of me tracking it..

You'll also notice a synth solo happening in this track.  That was done using the Prophet Rev2 Synth.  Took me a couple of evening sessions to get it down.  But I was quite pleased with the results.  Check out my Facebook and Instagram pages of me jamming on it a little.  Byron again, used many plug ins to get this track where we wanted it and did an excellent job of mixing it.

We are slowly beginning to reach the end of this project.  I have actually completed writing and tracking the last song... Pablo.  It's a song for a friend and a mentor, who didn't make it.  I guess it's kind of a down ending for this project while the Pandemic rages on.  But I believe the song ends with hope, and I'm looking forward to sharing it.  Then it's on to Mastering and making some major decisions as to what I'm going to do with this album.  Hopefully more exciting things are in the future.
